Objective
Aarogyasri Community Health Insurance Scheme is a first-of-its-kind innovative scheme being implemented in the State of Andhra Pradesh from Ist April 2007. Since then it is being successfully implemented to the extent that more than 50000 surgery / procedures are performed under this scheme over a peroid of one year. Aimed at taking world class medical services to the door step of those who live below the poverty line and to improve the infrastructure facilities in health care, the scheme is being successfully executed and has resulted in refining the health care delivery in the whole state.
Beneficiaries
Today, the scheme covers a population of 6.54crore in the state, who live Below the Poverty Line, as enumerated and photographed on the Health Card / BPL Ration card.
Coverage The scheme provides coverage for meeting expenses for hospitalization and surgical procedures for the beneficiary members up to Rs.1.50lakh per family per year in any of the network hospitals. The benefit on family will be on floater basis i.e. the total reimbursement of Rs.1.50 lakhs can be availed of individually or collectively by members of the family. An additional sum not exceeding Rs.50,000/- is provided as buffer to take care of the expenses, if it exceeds the original sum. i.e., Rs.1,50,000/- per Individual / family.
Cashless Transaction
The transaction is cashless for the covered procedures which includes mainly procedures / surgery related to super specialty. BPL beneficiary will go to network hospitals of which there are >350 in the state and can have free evaluation and treatment as required for the procedures / surgeries covered in the scheme. The same is the case for diagnostics if eventually the patient does not end up in doing the surgery or therapy.
Which means, the scheme also ensures that the beneficiaries get 100% subsidized OPD consultation, diagnostic tests and medical treatment regardless of whether they ultimately require surgery or not. Apart from this free food and transportation are also provided to patients who are admitted.
There are more than 3600 personnel involved in executing this noble initiative which includes several doctors, mostly Surgeons and Super-Specialists in Cardiology, Oncology and Neurosurgery etc. |
