What is Mucormycosis (Black Fungus)? 

Widely referred to as Black Fungus, the fungal infection mucormycosis is caused by the fungus mould named mucormycetes. It affects body parts, including the lungs, sinuses, skin and brain.

Symptoms of Black Fungal Infection   

Black Fungal Infection can affect various body parts, including your brain. It primarily affects the skin and the respiratory organs. 

Fever  Cough  Headache  Nasal congestion  Ulcers 

Chest pain  Trouble in breathing  Nausea and vomiting  Blister swells or rashes on the skin

Mucormycosis  symptoms  

Black Fungus affects people of all ages or sex. People with the following conditions are at  high risk. Cancer  HIV/AIDS  Organ transplantation Haemochromatosis (high iron levels in the body) Metabolic acidosis (uneven acidic levels in the body) Malnutrition Premature babies.   

Who is at risk?    

Mucormycosis is not a contagious disease as it doesn’t spread from person to person.

Is Black Fungus disease contagious?    

Mucormycosis affects persons with a weak immune system. Though people recovering from the covid-19 infection became susceptible to the black fungus, there has been no direct and conclusive link between covid-19 and Mucormycosis till now.
