What causes Scabies?

What is Scabies? 

Scabies is a skin disease caused by the itchy mite, Sarcoptes scabei. It is a skin condition that causes red-coloured rashes and even bumps in your skin.

What causes Scabies? 

Mites are small arachnids that infest the skin, lay eggs, and breed.  They burrow your skin and lay eggs into the tiny hollow spaces they dig in. This causes itchy skin, to which you would react by scratching it. It develops into rashes and can be agonising.

How does  Scabies spread? 

Scabies is contagious and spreads through physical contact. It also spreads through: Clothes Furniture Beds, bed sheets and pillows 

The common  areas where  Scabies affects: 

Inbetween fingers  Along wrists  Armpits  Inner elbows  Around waist  Chest and back  Genital areas  Knees 

Treatments  for Scabies 

Scabies treatments usually aim to eliminate the infestation using ointments, and lotions. Don't self-treat. Before using any medications first consult medical practitioner 

Steps to prevent scabies from spreading   

Always trim your nails  Do not share linen and objects with others. Maintain healthy hygiene.
