Chirayu Ayushman Haryana Health Insurance Scheme

Chirayu Ayushman Haryana Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana

The “Chirayu Ayushman Haryana Health Insurance Scheme” or “Chirayu Ayushman Scheme” (Comprehensive Health Insurance of Antyodaya Units) is an extended unit of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) specifically for the Haryana region. This scheme is committed to providing ₹5 lakh in annual health coverage per family on a floater basis, covering secondary and tertiary care (major hospital treatments), not OPD. This medical care coverage can be utilised for cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals across India. Eligibility criteria are linked to Haryana’s Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP). On the other hand, healthcare expenses in India are rising rapidly, which often pushes individuals or their families into debt. To address this, the government of Haryana launched the Chirayu Ayushman scheme on November 21, 2022.

Unlike the central Ayushman Bharat scheme, which relies on SECC-2011 data, the Chirayu scheme uses the state’s Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) data for eligible beneficiaries. The scheme also relaxes income limits and brings quality healthcare within reach of middle-class households without forcing them to deplete their savings. Let’s dive into the key features of the Chirayu Ayushman Haryana health insurance scheme.

Potential Features of Chirayu Ayushman Haryana Health Insurance Scheme

  • Extensive Health Coverage for Multiple Treatments: Chirayu Ayushman Bharat scheme offers cashless treatment covering a wide range of medical, surgical, and daycare procedures under the guidelines of PM-JAY (includes medicines and diagnostics). Official 1,500+ procedures are available for beneficiaries, spanning many speciality areas.
  • Irrespective of Family Size or Age: There are no caps on family size or age restrictions for beneficiaries.
  • Cashless Treatment Facilities with Minimal paperwork: Beneficiaries can take cashless and paperless treatment under the scheme at all tied-up government and private hospitals, as medical care services are directly settled through the system.
  • Pre-Existing Conditions Coverage from Day One: All pre-existing ailments are covered from the moment a beneficiary enrols. There’s no waiting period before health insurance coverage kicks in.
  • Pre- and Post-Hospitalisation Expenses Benefits: It covers all pre- and post-hospitalisation expenses, including diagnostics and medication, with coverage extending to 3 days before admission and 15 days as a post-hospitalisation care coverage.
  • Pan-India Hospital Access: Ayushman/Chirayu cards issued by the Haryana government are valid at tied-up hospitals across India, not just within the state. This further extends advantages for beneficiaries to get care while travelling or residing elsewhere.

Wrapping It Up!

Chirayu Ayushman health insurance scheme is a powerful public financial protection for families in Haryana. It is an extension of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana with a cashless treatment coverage for major hospital treatments. However, government health insurance schemes have certain limitations that are eligibility-based, fixed package lists, confined to no OPD coverage, and lower overall coverage. If your pocket allows you to pair the Chirayu health insurance scheme with a private comprehensive health insurance policy, as private insurance is specifically designed to offer higher coverage, enhanced medical care, wide hospital choices and greater flexibility for personalised medical care needs.
