Affordable, accessible healthcare services are something every resident of Mizoram needs. Nowadays, the cost of medical treatments is going up every day, and even a short medical treatment can come with hefty bills. To help with this, the Mizoram government has launched the State Health Care Scheme.

This scheme is specially designed to support residents of Mizoram, especially the economically weaker sections. This scheme also extends to elderly people and those with disabilities. Eligible individuals can avail themselves of medical treatment without paying large amounts upfront at the hospital.

In this article, we’ll discuss this scheme in detail, its primary objective, who can apply, what it covers, ways to enrol and why it’s important for families in Mizoram.

What is the Mizoram State Health Care Scheme?

The Mizoram State Health Care Scheme (MSHCS) or Mizoram health insurance scheme is a health plan from the state government. It was launched in April 2008. The main objective behind this scheme was to improve access to medical treatment for several medical conditions and illnesses that may require hospitalisation and surgery. It provides health insurance cover of up to Rs. 3 lakh.

With this scheme, beneficiaries can receive treatment at both government and selected private hospitals that are part of the network, making it much easier and smoother to access the required medical attention now. The scheme ensures that people get timely medical attention without delaying treatment due to financial constraints.

Key Objectives of the Scheme

The Mizoram State Health Care Scheme has been introduced with several important objectives. It aims to provide affordable healthcare services to the people of Mizoram, which reduces their financial burden during medical emergencies. It focuses on providing cashless hospitalisation for major illnesses and surgery, and strengthening economically weaker and vulnerable sections of society.

Who is Eligible for this Scheme?

The scheme covers Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL) families with annual income of up to Rs. 5 lakh. Therefore, the benefits you get might be different depending on your income.

  • Citizens of Mizoram may be eligible for this scheme if they are permanent residents of Mizoram, have a valid state-issued identity or ration card, and an Aadhaar card.
  • Economically weaker sections, such as Below Poverty Line families (BPL)and low-income families, are also eligible for coverage under the scheme.

However, these numbers may vary depending on government revisions.
