With COVID-19 persisting all over the world, having a strong immune system is more important than ever. That’s because your immune system defends against harmful pathogens such as bacteria and viruses that cause cold and flu.

However, unfortunately, no special diet or other lifestyle modification other than social distancing and proper hygiene practices can prevent you from the novel coronavirus infection.

However, people can stay healthy & follow these habits that strengthen immunity:

What can you do: Besides eating a healthy and well-balanced diet, it is also vital to get enough sleep, manage stress, be active and wash your hands properly. Make sure you are eating a diet high in immune-boosting nutrients. This is one way we can take an active role in maintaining your health and wellness.

1. Consume foods high in Vitamin C, such as Orange, Lemon, strawberries, broccoli, and kiwis. Studies have shown these foods increase white blood cell production, which is the key to fight infection.

2. Beta-Carotene converts into Vitamin A, an anti-inflammatory vitamin that can help our antibodies respond to viruses. Carrot, Spinach, Papaya, & Sweet Potato are all great sources of Beta-Carotene.

3. Vitamin E is key in regulating and supporting immune system function. Nuts and seeds, avocado, and spinach are the best sources of Vitamin E.

4. Vitamin D is essential for immune function and helps regulate the body’s immune response. It is found in salmon and tuna. We synthesize vitamin D following 13 – 15 minutes of sun exposure three times a week.

5. Yogurt, which has probiotics, and garlic (packed with antioxidants) help stimulate & support the immune system to fight off the disease.
